During the outgrowth of wisdom teeth, especially on the lower jaw, pain can occur which is accompanied by swelling and difficulties opening the mouth.
The root of the problem for this is the lack of space which makes it impossible for the tooth to break out of the gum. That is why only a part of the tooth grows out onto the surface and a periodontal pocket forms around it which in time gets inflamed as bacteria thrives in it.
The inflammation is treated by draining the pocked with a drainage band which is soaked with antibacterial medicine and an analgesic concoction. In more serious cases we also prescribe antibiotics.
Should the problem of the outgrowing wisdom tooth not be able to get solved like this, we suggest a surgical removal of the tooth.
